The PS1 version is the only version that has CG intros like the PS1 FF games. The PS1 version suffered mainly from load times but again that is due to the PS1 limitations. Where it performs poorly in sound/visual, makes up for the extra content like the extra dungeon and a few other additions (like new summons). The GBA version was the most recent version I played and finished, the sound really is bad and the colors are washed out but that is because of the GBA's limitations. Never came across broken skills (Sabin requires control inputs to do moves and Gau's moves are based on monster skills/blue magic which can make him do random attacks, Umaro a side character attacks randomly) - so that could be the reason why people may have said some things about broken skills or useless characters. Translation on the SNES was fine at least to me - some of the spell names and some of the lines are changed in later versions though none of that really bothered me when I played it - the SNES version is the version I played the most (at least 5 times).
